Earth Day is approaching. Have you thought about your green efforts?

Every year, Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 by people all over the world in an effort to protect the planet and environment. As a landscape industry leader for nearly five decades, it is our responsibility to help preserve our world’s natural resources. One way we contribute is through community service. We strongly believe in helping the community maintain and create landscapes that contribute to the overall well-being of the environment.

Last year, Chapel Valley partnered with the Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing (APAH) for an Earth Day project that beautified the Buchanan Gardens Apartments. We cleaned up trash, sprayed poison ivy, and removed dead trees that were hazardous. Next, we spruced up the lot with an assortment of plantings near the management office—these included Knockout Roses, Clematis, Hemerocallis, and Nepeta. This year, we are partnering with APAH again to install a vegetable and cut garden.

Please let Chapel Valley know if you are ever interested in partnering for a community service project– we would love to hear about it!

EARTH DAY FACT: More green space within a city’s boundaries can improve the urban environment.

What are the benefits to adding plants & trees?

  • Decrease pollution by reducing the amount of carbon dioxide in the air
  • Help remove chemicals and bacteria from water in the ground.
  • Absorb sound and help with noise pollutions.
  • Reduce energy consumption by countering the warming effects of paved surfaces.
  • Hold soil in place, keeping sediment out of lakes, streams, storm drains, and roads.

History of Ayres Landscape

Ayres Landscape Services first began in the year 1978 with Bruce Ayres, the owner, operator, and leader of all landscaping projects. Bruce first began mowing lawns in order to pay his way through college. Soon he found that he had such a love and passion for plants and landscaping, that he decided he wanted to expand his little lawn mowing service into a company that provided landscape design and contracting for residential and commercial properties all over Southern California.

Bruce then got his contractor’s license and took classes to become an expert in plants, trees, irrigation installation, pest control, and Eco-friendly ways to provide his future customers with the best quality landscaping.

Once Bruce finished his schooling to get licensed and trained in all aspects that landscaping and contracting entail, Ayres Landscape Services began. Bruce is knowledgeable and well trained in landscape design, renovation, installation of irrigation and sprinkler systems, and maintaining yards so they stay healthy and beautiful all year round.

He is also able to provide ways of water saving and Eco-friendly ways to keep your yard up to your high standards. Not only is Bruce highly educated in the landscape business, but he also has many years of extensive experience working in the field. Bruce may be the owner of Ayres Landscape Services, and has crew members to go out on the job to do the work, but that does not mean he won’t still get his hands dirty by going out on projects to this day.

He knows all the ins and outs of landscaping and can educate all clients with any questions or concerns regarding their property.

What is recycled water?

water-conservation-header-980x370

Recycled water is treated wastewater which is further treated so it is ‘fit for purpose’ for its intended use. It can then be used for a range of purposes like:

  • irrigation of sports grounds, golf courses and public open spaces
  • industrial processing
  • replenishing our groundwater
  • toilet flushing/clothes washing/garden watering
  • maint aining wetlands or other environmental purposes
  • irrigation of food crops
  • irrigation of non-food crops (e.g.: trees, woodlots, turf, flowers)
  • Construction/dust suppression.

We live in a very environmentally conscious state. California is always trying to find new ways to conserve water, electricity, gas, and other natural elements that are always constantly dwindling in supply. One of the ways people can help is to use recycled water for their landscaping.

Recycled water has the benefit of having additional nutrients already in the water. There are some things that need to be considered when using recycled water, such as there being too many nutrients in the soil already. A great landscaping company will take that into consideration before advising you on how much fertilizer should be used in conjunction with your new recycling system. By doing so, it can increase your plant growth, and save you even more money in the long run.

There are many questions that come with switching your water over to recycled water, and a good landscaping company should be able to answer those questions to your satisfaction. There are regulations that need to be followed during the switching out of regular water to recycled water as well. When selecting your landscaping company, remember to ask of these regulations, and if they are unable to give a correct response, selecting another landscaping company is imperative. Regulations vary on a city by city basis, so it may be best to have a local company come and survey the area.
